History and profile of the Subarnapur District of Odisha Subarnapur which is later recognized as Sonepur is a town and district headquarters which belongs to Subarnapur district of Odisha. Formerly, a British Indian state had its capital as Sonepur during the British rule. The district has an widespread area of 2284.89 kilometer square. This district is also recognized as the second Varanasi of India due to its huge clusters of temples located. This city's architects had shown much importance in constructing the temples and their minute carvings. This city also produce efficient silk, handlooms, prawns, terracotta,etc., Many textile products are also famous in this district.

The college was started at 1964 with Pre-University Arts class under Utkal University. This institute was put under the jurisdiction of Sambalpur University on 1st January, 1967. The institute started its B.Sc, I.Sc, and B.Sc on 1966, 1971 and 1975 respectively. Then it got affiliation in various Arts and Science subjects. Arts, Science and Commerce are the various departments that are available in Sonepur college. The hostel facilities for the students is also available. The principal is the head for the hostel facilities.

These colleges are offering many UG and PG courses in the Arts, Science and Commerce stream. These colleges also have well established departments and hostels. The good infrastructure and lab facilities are provided in these colleges and it creates smooth learning environment to the students. The nominal admission and college fees are collected from the rural and village students to admit on various courses.
