Career Opportunities in Commerce Field
Today is the age of Industrialization. Because of the increasing of demand of growing population has given opportunities for many industries to set up, whether it is foreign or domestic. More industries mean more job opportunities. Still India is yet to prove itself a Developed Nation. For that all the necessary planning in the form of 5 year planning has been formed in the Centre. Industrialization is one of the points in that future planning.
Educational Scenario of Odisha
As India is looking for more and more Industries, how Odisha will remain behind. Odisha Govt. is also inviting the business giants to establish more and more industries in Odisha. The step towards declaration of SEZ for industrialization, steps for set-up of POSCO at Kalinganagar, Tata Industrial Park at Gopalpur etc. proves the above statement. As you know, Odisha is full of natural resources, so it is an attraction for the business giants for investment. Hence, more and more industries can be seen in Odisha in near future.Laxmi Mittal has signed a MoU with Odisha Govt. for a Huge Steel Plant. Similarly Tata is eyeing for a Steel Plant at Joda. Many other industries are Expanding their existing capacities like JK Paper and Emami in Paper Field, Vedanta and Zindal in Power Sector etc. It will create much more job opportunities in the Commerce Field in Near Future.
Commerce plays a vital role in any industry. Whether it is in the field of sales, marketing, Accounts, Finance, Purchase or Stores Operation, one can feel the presence of Commerce Professionals. Because of the growing of Industries, the demand for Commerce Professionals has been increased. Attractive Salary, Strong Reputation and growing opportunities has attracted more and more students for a career in Commerce field now a days. Now it has been considered in parallel with Engineering, Computer Science and Medical education.
Professional Courses in Commerce
The various braches of Commerce, at which one can build his /her career, are as under:
1. Chartered Accountant (CA)
2. Company Secretary (CS)
3. Cost and Works Accountant (CWA)
4. Corporate Financial Accountant (CFA)
5. Many short Term courses in Material Management, Stores Management, Supply Chain Management etc.
Chartered Accountant (CA)
CA is a professional course. Minimum eligible qualification required for CA is Intermediate in any stream. One has to register himself in ICAI for appearing exams and obtain of Certificate. One has to travel through three stages to become a CA professional, i.e. CPT, Inter and Final. Being a professional course, it is expensive as compared to other courses. After obtaining the certificate one can start his/her career as a professional Chartered Accountant or can appoint himself/herself in a very good position, say Officer or Asst. Manager in Commerce Section of any Industry at entry level.
Company Secretary (CS)
CS is also a professional course. Minimum eligible qualification required for CS is Intermediate in any stream. One has to register himself in ICSI for appearing exams and obtain of Certificate. One has to travel through three stages to become a CS professional, i.e. Foundation, Executive and Professional Being a professional course, it is expensive as compared to other courses. After obtaining the certificate, one can appoint himself/herself as Ttrainee Secretary of any Industry at entry level. Without Company Secretary no industry can prosper. They bridge a relation between Govt., Law Boards, project management etc.
Cost-Works Accountant (CWA)
CWA is also a professional course. Minimum eligible qualification required for CWA is Intermediate in any stream. One has to register himself in ICWAI for appearing exams and obtain of Certificate. It is known as a fast Management Accountant professional builder course. One has to travel through three stages to become a CWA professional, i.e. Foundation, Inter and Final. After obtaining the Certificate , one can appoint oneself at a good position of the industry in Costing & Statistics Dept and Commerce Dept., say as Costing Officer, AM (Costing) at entry level.
Corporate Financial Accountant
CFA is also a professional Course. At least graduation in Commerce is required for admission into CFA. No need for any registration with any institute. It is a self-finance course provided by various universities and institutions. It is less expensive as compared to other professional courses. One can get very good job in financial institutions after qualifying CFA.
Apart from the above professional courses, other short term courses are also available in commerce like Stores Management, Supply Chain Management, and Material Management etc. These courses are helpful for promotion in service or to employed oneself in specified organizations.
However, to be a successful professional in Commerce field, one should have adequate knowledge in computer especially in accounting soft-wares like Tally, ERP, SAP etc.
It can be observed that people having the above qualification holds the top most post in the organizations like CEO, CFO, COO, Finance Director, Chief Finance Adviser, Finance Controller, Vice President etc.
