Anugul, An Industrial District of Odisha

Anugul, An Industrial District of Odisha
The newly created district Anugul is recognized as a district on 1st April, 1993. It is situated at a distance from 160kms away from the capital. The district covers a geographical area of 6232 km2 and supports a population of about 11.40 lakhs. Although it is a newly created district but it is the most advance district as it gives the highest return of revenue to the government. The district is rich in varieties of wildlife in its lush green forests. The biggest river of Odisha Mahanadi passes through the district forming a 22kms long narrow gorge called "Satakosia", which is one of the mightiest gorge in India. Satakosia is an ideal habitat for varieties of crocodiles.
The altitude of the district varied from 564mts to 1,187mts, rainfalls 170cms approximate and the maximum temperature of the country is 50'c and the minimum is 10'c.Where as the sex ratio of the districts are 893 female per 1000 male with literacy 68%.
At present the location advantage and abundant stock of manpower and play an important role in the industrial development of the district.The reputed industries like National Aluminium Company (NALCO), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) Talcher, Indian Aluminium Product Ltd , Bhusan Steels Ltd. , BRG ltd. etc. are situated in the district.
Anugul is flanked by hillocks on both sides. The headquarters of the district is beautifully carved on an open plain with a garlanding road. As an important road junction, Anugul serves the ideal base for visiting the places of interest in its neighbourhood.
The Parliamentary constituence of Anugul are Sambalpur and Dhenkanal.The blocks of the districts are Angul, Chhendipada, Kaniha, Banarpal, Athamallik, Kishorenagar, Talcher, and Palalahara. The name of the colleges present in the districts are Government autonomous college, Women's' college, Adarsha school of Engineering and International Polytechnic, Raneswar institute of management and Information tchhnology.
Most Attractive Place at Anugul
Tikarpada: It is strategically situated by the side of Satakosia Gorge. It is an ideal place for boating, angling and adventure. It is also famous for Gharial Crocodile sanctuary.
Talcher: It is famous for Talcher Thermal Power Station; the largest Coal based Fertilizer Plant and Heavy Water plant.
Bhimakund: There is a huge sand rock where we find a massive image of Vishnu in sleeping posture. The image is second only to Gomateswar(Karnatak)in size, but it has the honour of being the largest sleeping image in India.
Deulaijhar: It is famous for the presence of a hot spring which seems to floe from the bottom of a Siva Lingam.
Rengali: River Brahmani shelters a dam and reservoir with a Hydroelectric projects.
Samal: Its panoramic view with deep solitude is a panacea to the picnickers.
Khuludi: It is famous for a waterfall that jumps from the hilltop and pays homage to Lord Shiva on the foothill.
