Puri is considered to be one of the four most sacred places for Hindus in India as the Lord of the Universe" Sri Jagnnath" is here. It is also with one of the most beautiful beaches of the world and attracts millions of visitors annually. " Sri Jagannath" temple is also named as "Sri Mandir" , which is situated at a distance of 62kms away from the capital of Odisha. The temple is the model of the finest Odishan architecture. Millions of piligrims are coming here to seek salvation and blessing from omniscient "Sri Jagannath" . The car festival is observed here on a grand scale in the month of "Ashadha" (July). The unique car festival is the biggest festival of the world and also the colourful festival of India, where the devotees actively take part . The traditional cars are decorated with gigantic wheels and three deities on Ashadha sukla dwitiya. Lord " Sri Jagannath" ,his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra seated on those. There is a restriction for Nonhindus during other days for the temple , but it is the car festival where in every year thousands of Nonhindus get a glimpse of the God. The people pull the car of the God to "Sri Gundicha" temple , which is situated at a distance of 3kms away from "Sri Mandir", where they stay for 9 days. After the grand ceremony get overed the devotees again take the car back to the temple ,which is well known as "Bahuda Jatra". The day after the "Bahuda Jatra" the three Gods are dressed with the gold ornaments in the car. 7-8 lakhs of optimists come here for the blessings of God in this occasion. The day after this the Gods return to the temple called as "Niladri Bije", which is the last stage of the biggest festival. It is the car festival when the Hindu and Nonhindu devotees of Lord " Sri Jagannath" at a time get a glimpse of the God and enjoy the festival. The outsiders coming to the ceremony enjoy not only the car festival , but also acquainted themselves with the culture and tradition of Odisha.
