Drumstick is an iron rich vegetable. All human being should take this as a diet. Drumstick curry is a famous in a famous in Orissa. The people of Orissa love to prepare variety items of drumstick. This article is about one of the item prepared with drumstick, which we called as Chhuin Beshara.

Ingredients for Drumstick Fry or Chhuin Besar


  • Drumstick 500 gm
  • Chopped Onion 100 gm
  • Chopped Tomato 100gm
  • Smashed Garlic 25 gm
  • Sliced Ginger 25gm
  • Mustard 50gm
  • Cumin seeds 10gm
  • Green chilli 5gm
  • Edible (Palm / Groundnut) Oil 2 table spoon
  • Salt as required


How to Make Chhuin Besar or Drumstick Fry


At first, need to grind chopped onion, mustard, garlic, ginger, green chilli, cumin seeds and chopped tomato to make a paste.

Cut the drumsticks into two to three inch in size, then boil them in a bowl for 8-10 min. keep this separately.

Then, keep a kadai on the burner. Put two table spoons of edible oil into the kadai. Add some cumin seeds, mustard and red chilli after the oil becomes hot. Then, add the processed paste into the kadai and fry for five to seven minute, until turns brown. Add some turmeric powder and salt as per requirement. Then, add the boiled drumsticks into that and cook for minimum five minutes. A little amount of water can be added if required, otherwise not. Serve hot with pakhal bhata.
