The first thing comes to our mind about Dam is a construction by the building materials like concrete of cement, sand, and rod.But the latest innovation in the civil world is Rubber Dam. For the development of Deras farmers in Bhubaneswar,capital of Orissa such type of Rubber Dam is constructed there. The 1.5 meter height dam is very helpful in heavy rain and unwanted flood.

About Rubber Dam of Deras

There is a superb innovation like Rubber Dam is constructed in the Deras farm in the capital of Orissa, Bhubaneswar. A 5mt. long and 15 mt. wide Rubber Dam is constructed over a drainage of Deras due to the great hands of IRMRA (Indian rubber manufacturing research association), CIRCT (Central Institute of research on cotton technology) and Kusumagar corporate. Orissa consists most of Rainless area in it and some of these area are not provided by Dam, constructed with building materials like concrete, sand, rod. So for the development of farmers in those particular area, this steps towards Rubber Dam is forwarded.
Water management Directorate of Orissa pointed on this Rubber Dam project in Deras village of Bhubaneswar on 2008. After getting certification of NIEP (National agriculture innovation project), in 2009, a team is made for this Dam. It includes the project principal Dr. Narayan sahu with Director of Water management, Bhubaneswar Dr. Aswini kumar, Head scientist Dr. Atmaram mishra, Dr. Susant kumar Jena, Engineer D U Patil and Research associate Renuka Bej.

Construction of Rubber Dam in Orissa
At first, a concrete base and concrete sidewall is made at the drainage section or river. Then the Rubber Dam is fitted in such a way that water from drainage or river will never lick under the Dam. The Rubber Dam is connected with a pipe and placed at the dam sight, through which water pumps out in to the Dam. Now the 1.5 mt. height Dam takes 20 minutes to fill. When necessary, the drainage tube which is provided under the Dam can be open for draining out the water and it take a minimum 40 minutes to drain the water completely out.
Farmers can operate this dam by their own so it does not require any technical staffs. It can be found to know from the principal of this project, a 1 mt. dam can be constructed within Rs.10,000. It can also helpful in heavy rain and flood.

Based upon the own technical project , this Rubber Dam is the first in India. This Dam project is also working on several river site in Orissa including Baghamari and badapokharia in khurda.
