Full Details of Veer Surendra Sai
The great freedom fighter of Orissa, Veer Surendra Sai was Born on 809 in a Village called Bargaon (on the Dhama Road) The son of Madhukar Sai crowned as king of Sambalpur after demise of king Maharaja Sai in 1827. His great dedication to Orissa peple ia quite unsurpassed till date. He was strong, sharp and very famous at that time. Surendra sai was a discipline swordsman and proud to defeat his enemies.
Veer Surenra Sai carried on an undetermined war against the forces of imperialism till 1862. Only eighteen years of age in 1827, Surendra Sai started his revolutionary struggle against British commenced and it was continuing till 1864, he was arrested. The immortal lion of Orissa, Surendra Sai from occupying the ruler seat the british cammand recognised the widow of Maharaja Sai, Rani Mohan Kumari as the new ruler and using he started stealing the subjects. People demanded that Surendra Sai be crowned as the king of Sambalpur. He was an inspiring leader of the people. The only aim of Surendra Sai is to drive the British out of Sambalpur. Surendra Sai could not supressed about the law and order of the British throughout India.
During his revolutionary carrier of about 17 years from 1840 to 1857 he was passed imprisonment in Hazaribagh Jail. Includig of 20 years from 1864 to 1888 also suffered imprisonment in Asirgarh hill. Major Forster, the reputed general has declared one day that Surendra Sai was never defeated and would never be defeated. One troop of Madras native, under Hawkins were expected at Sambalpur, His successor Major Impey realise the futility of strong military operation against Veer Surendra Sai. The uncompromising struggle after the supression of the Indian revolution in 1857-58 against a tight power is one of his great achivement. The British seized the total food-stock and stopped all resorces of the supply y of food and other necessaries for life but it could not damp the fighting spirit of Surendra Sai.
Veer Surendra Sai detained in the Asirgarh hill fort with his 6 followers where he took his last breath on 28th of february, 1888.He was the great freedom fighter of Orissa who made the British commenced to think about their survival in Orissa soil.Actually Sambalpur people called him Veer Surendra Sai in Sambalpuri language according to which Veer means courageous.For his great dedication and quality struggle Oriya people just proud of him.
