Puri beach in Orissa:

Chilika lake in Orissa:
The Chilika Lake in Orissa is the Asia's Largest Wetland with its Peach Coloured Flamingoes , and Siberian Cranes, the main attraction. The lake is separated from the Bay of Bengal by a sandy ridge. Just south of Puri, the sea mixes in with the 1100 sq.km inland Chilika Lake. There are more than 160 varieties of fish, and in the winter season (from November through March), the area is home to hundreds of thousands of migratory birds as well. The water spread of the lagoon varies between 1165 Sq.km in monsoon to 906 Sq.km during summer and extends over Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts. Numerous islands are present in the lagoon, prominent among which are Kalijai, Barakuda, maaluda etc. The lake is rich in aquatic life- its water harbour around 160 species of fish, crustaceans and other marine creatures, including the famous Chilka dolphin. Prawn, crab. Mackerel fishing are an important source of survive for the local people, and hundreds of small fishing boats set sail each morning to bring in the day's catch from the lake Birds Island. The Chennai bound National Highway No.5 linking Calcutta-Cuttack-Bhubaneswar-Balugaon-Barkul-Rambha-Berhampur and Visakhapatnam runs along this site. Pilgrims flock here in January during Makar Mela (at the time of Makar Sankranti) to pay dedication to the Goddess Kalijai, whose temple is situated on Kalijai island in Chilka Lake. The latest survey suggest that, 321 species of fish and crab, 7 species of amphibians, 35 species of reptiles, 20 species of mammals are there in the lake. One of Orissa's main rivers, the Mahanadi empties into Chilika Lake.
Chandipur beach in Orissa:
Chandipur beach is 16 Kms away from the district Balasore. The sea recedes into the horizon by nearly 5 km twice each day. Watching the sea vanish right in front of your eyes and then observing its rhythmic return is a very rare site.
