The pana sankranti is known as the Oriya New Year or the other name of this festival is Mahabishuba Sankranti. In Orissa Mahabishuba Sankranti is known as the first Sankranti of Oriya New Year Calender. As it is the first day of Oriya Calender so there is many puja, festivals and homos are taken place in many temples of Orissa. It is heard that in this time period the Sun ray or the heat of the Sun is increasing, so the rate of digestion is more. So many Oriya People like to eat the boiling Buta Dal in this period of time which is a good Oriya Food. To maintain the body temperature many people like to drink some fruit juice and the Pana which is a mixture of many fruits and curd etc. So this festival is also known as Pana Sankranti. On that day all the peoples of Orissa give the danda nachapana as a gift to their neighbors, Brahmans and other relatives. From that day there are opening of many Pana Stalls on the side of Roads in many places of Orissa. In Hindu family they put a pot with filled of water on a Tulasi plant which is known as the sacred plant of Hindus. As on that day we give water to plants and trees and animals so the other name of this festival is Jala Sankranti. In that time all oriya people are worship Lord Hanuman to save from Fire and Air. There are many festivals and many jatras are celebrated all over the State. So Mahabishuba Sankranti is one of the famous festival of Orissa. Thi festival increases a devine relationship in the hearts and souls of all the people of Orissa.
