List of Chief Minister of Orissa Province

On 1936, 1st April, Orissa province has been formed. The province has been controlled by the King of Paralakhemundi, Raja Krishna Chandra Gajapati. He ruled till July, 1937. There after the All India Congress party leader Bishwanath Dash took over the charges for two more years. Again the King took the control before finally handed over to Hare Krishna Mahtab in the year 1946.

Bishwanath Dash – From 1937 to 1939.
Krishna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deo – From 1941 to 1944.
Dr. Hare Krishna Mahtab – From 1946 to 1947, August 15.

List of Chief Minister of State of Orissa

After India got its freedom and our constitution has been formed, we have started working in the principles of democracy. Till the first election, Hare Krishna Mahtab continued to be the chief minister of Orissa and than it has been taken over by Nabakrishna Choudhury. Here is the list of chief minister of Orissa since 1950.

Hare Krishna Mahtab – From 1950 Jan. to 1950 May.
Nabakrushna Choudhury – From 1950 to 1956.
Hare Krishna Mahtab – From 1956 to 1961.
Biju Patnaik – From 1961 to 1963.
Biren Mitra – From 1963 to 1965.
Sadasiva Tripathy – From 1965 to 1967.
Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo – From 1967 to 1971.
Bishwanath Dash – From 1971 to 1972.
Nandini Satapathy – From 1972 to 1976.
Binayak Acharya – From 1976 to 1977.
Nilamani Routroy – From 1977 to 1980.
J.B. Pattanaik – From 1980 to 1989.
Hemananda Vishwal – From 1989 to 1990.
Biju Patnaik – From 1990 to 1995.
J.B. Pattanaik – From 1995 to 1999.
Giridhar Gomango – From 1999 to 1999.
Hemananda Vishwal – From 1999 to 2000.
Naveen Patnaik – From 2000 to till now.

Naveen Patnaik, son of late Biju Patnaik has completed two full terms as chief minister of the state and continuing into his third term. Though he was new to Orissa political arena at the time of his entry to the politics, he very well overcomes the hurdles of life with his unique style of working. He has been considered as one of the finest chief ministers of Orissa.
