There are certain incidents that relates srimandir of puri during its 800 years history,which will remain in human memory for the years to come.Attacks on srimandir by religious fanatics,shifting of the deities,falling of stones from the temple,repair and preservation work are some of the incidents.The first ever stone (that weighted about 5 tons) fell down from "Aunla Behha" on 14th june 1990.Hardly two year after,i.e. on 13th August 1992 falling of another stone of around 1 ton weight just in front of "Ratna Singhasan" of sri Jews created sensation throughout the entire nation.
This incident put a big question mark over the stability of the temple structure.THe central Government,state Government,district Administration as well as temple Administration have put their combined effort for the repair and conservation of the temple.ON 29th Nov. 1992,the deities were shifted temporarily facilitate and preservation of the sanction sanctum (Garbha Griha) of the temple.this is the most significant incident about srimandir in the contemporary times.
