Berhampur in Ganjam District.it is the southernmost district in the State of Orissa on the East coast of India.
Originally, it was called as 'BRAHMAPUR', meaning 'City of Brahma', God who has created the Universe, according to Hindu Methdology.

History of Berhampur in Ganjam District

Brahmapur is an ancient town, which seems to have been named after Lord Brameswara, enshrined at Lathi, one of the Asta Sambhus, worshipped by the Mohuri Kings, who were the original Zamindars and was the original residence of Mahuri Kings. The Village Lathi is only 4 kms from old Berhampur. Some versions are that it is 'Brhamana-puram', meaning the City of Brahamins, an upper caste , in Hindu society.
