Bhajan Samrat Bhikari Bal passes away

Bhikari Bal, popularly known as 'Bhajan Samrat' died last night in Cuttack. The legendary singer who was prolonged illness and was admitted to ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital on 25th October died yesterday late night. Bhikari Bal who was aged 81 years was suffering septicemia along with multiple organ failure.

The Orissa Film and Music Industry are in a state of gloom on the demise of this stallwart of this Orissa Music industry. People from various walks of life have deeply mourned his death describing it as a huge loss for the state of Orissa.

Bhikari Bal was an ardent devotee of Lord Jagannath and has sung hundreds of devotional Bhajans in praise and devotion of Lord Jagganath. Some of his popular Bhajns include Amiti A Badadande, Mu Ta Bada Deulara Paaraa, Jagannath Tume Jadi, Bada Danda Dhuli, Tu Dinabandhu, Kalliare Tu Mora, Sathia Pauti, Bhakata Bidura, Hatia Thakura, Tuma Padey Saran, Odiara gelhapua kaliaa, Ahe Chaka Akhi etc.

This legendary singer has also recieved a number of awards for his soulful singing. He has also sung in many Oriya films like Abhilasha (1983), Bhakta Salabega (1983), Agni Parikshya (1980), Aparichita (1980), Mathura Bijaya (1979), Srikrushna Raas Leela (1979), Anutap (1977), Amar Prem (1976), Kanakalata (1973), and Kie Kahara (1968) etc.
