Know about Odissi dance of Orissa.

Odissi dance is a classical dance of Orissa on the basis of archaeological evidence and inspired from many sculptures & Manuscripts. There are many dance forms of India but odissi dance is dance forms which can be distinguish from others by displaying emotions and sentiments. This form of dancing shows the richness of grace and charm. Most of the dance move around the stories of Radha and Krishna, the divine couple. The love lyrics of jaydeva and the Sanskrit songs of geet Govinda are the two famous dance themes for odissi compositions. It is a dance item that eventually shows the power performance in fast tempo. There is no music but the tempo of the dance keeps the audience spellbound.

Costume of odissi dance

An odissi dance can easily identified by the costumes and ornaments she wears, a nine yard sari woven from indigenous silks, orange, red, green etc. In elaborately I describe the pattern of sari. There is a tight fitting richly embroidered blouse, a cover with frills around the hips and a cord with tassels to be tied at the waist. This costume was inspired from the devadasis otherwise known as temple dancers of Jaganath.

Origin of Odissi dance

You must be thing how the dance has originated? Actually in early age there were carvings on the rocks like Rani gumpha caves or walls of temple. The carvings were of dance forms and the their poses that are based on three bend concept which is know as bhangis. The three bends are the crossing of the legs, the curvature of the waist and slightly inclination of the head which looks very graceful.
