Mohammad Sikandar Alam the popular Oriya singer died last night of heart attack in Cuttack.

Mohammad Sikandar Alam, popular Oriya singer also known as Salabega of modern era for his numerous devotional songs to the Hindu god Jagannath died yesterday night of a massive heart attack.

Alam who was 71 is survived by his widow Naima, and two daughters - actress Sophia and singer Nazia. He was admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack on Thursday after he complained of pain in the chest where he died on Sunday night of a heart attack.

Mohammad Sikandar Alam who was the president of Orissa Sangeet Natak Academy has sung in over 50 Oriya films and numerous devotional songs. He is highly popular for his soulful devotional songs dedicated to Lord Jagannath.
