Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 672 square km in the Bhitarkanika Mangroves, which is located in Kendrapara District, Orissa. Bhitarkanika Mangroves is the forest in the river delta of the rivers Brahmani and Baitarani.

Bhitarkanika is also famous for having a large number of salt water crocodiles. A good number of mammalian and reptilian animals are found in Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary. About 215 species of Avifauna including 8 variety of Kingfishers live in this Sanctuary. Indian Python and Water Monitor Lizards are also seen here. Bhitarkanika is also a place of large number of migrant bird and water birds. Among other animals, Wild Pigs, Rhesus Monkeys, Chitals are Darters, Cobra are found here.

Bhitarkanika National Park

Bhitarkanika National Park was formed in 1998 over an area of 145 square km area in the Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary. The Salt water crocodiles, Black Ibis, Indian Pythons live in this National Park.
