Hirakud Dam

Sambalpur is famous for the Hirakud Dam, the longest dam in the world. The distance of Hirakud Dam from Sambalpur Town is 15 KM. Hirakud Dam is built across the river Mahanadi. The reservoir of the Dam forms an artificial lake, which is largest in Asia. There is a Minar nearby called Gandhi Minar. From the top of the Minar, visitors can enjoy the sight of the Dam.

Chiplima Fall

Chiplima is 37 KM from Sambalpur. There is a 24.38 meter natural waterfall where electricity is generated. There is a deity of Maa Ghanteswari here. Chiplima is also known for Livestock Breeding Farm and Agriculture Farm.

Bimaleswar Temple, Huma

Huma Temple

Huma is famous for the Temple of Lord Shiva. Huma is 23 km away from Sambalpur. The temple here is a very old temple, built by the King Baliar Singh. The attraction of the temple is it's tilted structure. Inside the Temple premise, there is a main temple and some small temples. The temples are tilted in different directions. During Shivratri Festival, each year a big fair takes place here and thousands people gather to worship the Lord. There is a river flows near Huma Village, where many variety of fishes of different species are seen. A special fish, known as 'Kudo Fish' is found in this river.

Kandhar

Kandhar Village is the birth place of famous Poet Bhima Bhoi. The place is 78 km from Sambalpur. The village has a natural and scenic view.

Wildlife Sanctuary, Ushakothi

The distance of the place from Sambalpur is 43 km. There is a wildlife sanctuary where all types of wild animals like Tigers, Elephants, Deers, Bears, Sambars etc. are found. There are two watching towers inside the Sanctuary campus, from where visitors can see the animals.

Ghanteswati Bells Galore

This place is 33 km away from Sambalpur. Here visitors will find bells everywhere, as the name of the place indicates. The bells create sound continuously due to the heavy flow of wind here. There is a temple here, known as Maa Ghanteswari Temple. Three water streams of river Mahanadi meet at this place, creating a whirlpool.
