Surprisingly,migratory birds built nests in chilika as their summer habitat.

Chilika which is a migration spot for the spring for foreign birds this time has become home to quite a number of birds for the summer.

Usually , the birds migrate here and go back to their original places as summer approaches,but this time it is found that more than 20000 birds stayed back at chilika and built their nest in chilika as their summer habitat.

It is believed that abundance of food and good habitat make the lake a preferred choice for the birds.
