Best Time to visit Chilka


Positioned at South west of Puri the Chilka Lake in Orissa is the largest inland salt water lagoon in Asia.

The weather is reasonably warm the whole year round, so one may come any time of the year excluding during the rainy season from June to September.
The best time, though, is from October to March, when the lake is crammed full with migrating birds, typically at least 50 to 70 species. Pilgrims gather here in January during Makar Mela , during the time of Makar Sankranti to offer prayer to the Goddess Kalijai, whose temple is located on Kalijai island in Chilka Lake
