13032 villages are declared as Drought Affected area in Odisha

    Dear Members,

Govt. has declared 13032 villages of 19 Districts and 156 wards as drought affected area for the year 2011. The crops of these areas were down by more than fifty percent. It forced Govt. to declare these areas as drought affected area. The most affected Dist is Ganjam, which counts 3047 villages and 97 wards and the least affected Dist is Khorda, which counts 23 villages and no wards. The relief package has already been declared earlier. Steps will be taken in these areas for irrigation facilities, provision for short term cheap loans and many more.

I think it is another good step by Govt. to provide some relief to the poor farmers. But I think instead of going for these kind of post mortem things like providing relief, some Strong precautionary plans should be implemented to overcome drought kind of situation.

Odisha is always affected with drought and floods every year, so government should try to take few steps to find out a permanent solution for these problems in spite of temporary solutions.
    With regards,
