Demise of Palli Raja, the Hybrid Color Chicken of Odisha

The recent Bird Flu has ended the popular chicken of Odisha for ever. It is not a good news for the chicken lovers of Odisha.

Palli Raja, a Hybrid Color Broiler Chicken was developed by OUAT after 19 years of rigorous research. The chicken was so popular among the meat lovers because of its attractive color and tasty meat. The death ratio of these chicken are very less, so it was an attractive business for farmers also. It is also alleged that around 50000 Palli Raja was sold per day at Odisha.

The demise of Palli Raja is also a great loss for the PG students of OUAT. Earlier they were doing research upon them for their thesis. Now it is difficult for them to find a Cloned Chicken for research in Odisha. Really it is a great loss for them.

It is very unfortunate but what could we do. Government have to take this step to protect others from bird flu.
