Chilika is one of the most beautiful lakes of Orissa. It is India's biggest fresh water lake and paradise for tourists visiting Orissa.

Chilika a beautiful lake along the coastline of Orissa is the biggest Inland lake of India. Chilika covers an area of over 1100 sq km and is an absolute paradise for tourists interested in bird watching, fishing, boating etc. The lake is the winter abode for thousands of migratory birds who come here from all around the world. It is believed that Chilika Lake is home to over 225 species of fish and more than 350 non-aquatic plants apart from numerous water plants, phytoplankton and algae.

Chilika Lake has its banks across three major districts of the state of Orissa which are Puri, Ganjam and Khurda and finally enters the Bay of Bengal. The charming beauty of this elegant lake is just fantastic and it is an amazing experience to visit Chilika Lake. A glimpse of the Chilika Lake from moving trains and vehicles from nearby areas is a mesmerizing. The atmosphere is serene and set amidst the blue expanse of water on one side and majestic range of hills on the other. Chilika Lake has a number of beautiful islands and a boat ride on the lake would be an everlasting memory.
